Wow what a crazy month I’m working on…

Wow, what a crazy month! I’m working on Pods 2.0 and also this weekend I’ll be finishing up Pods 1.12 so it’s WP 3.3 compatible (issues with the TinyMCE editor code from @azaozz which has to be updated to not conflict). Post any issues you see with 3.3 here and I’ll tackle those too.

  1. Hey Scott,

Have absolutely no doubt that you’re working like crazy on Pods2, and I fully appreciate the complexity and challenges of what you are achieving, but I’ve been on the edge of my seat ever since the Kickstarter fundraiser… (we contributed too cos we think you’re awesome!) We’ve had a few dates come and go where Pods2 has been promised and I’ve been (perhaps foolishly) recounting this to a particular client because there are things in the pods I’ve developed for them that really need reworking. This is nothing to do with Pods – just the business logic is rather challenging and we’re working towards a solution together and Pods2 is going to make a huge difference to us.

When you say we’re almost there… what does that mean? WIll we see Pods2 before the year is out?

Sorry to ask, i know you are probably frustrated that this is taking so long too 🙂
All the best and keep up the great work!

    • Hey mungo, thanks for checking in!

I’m certainly very frustrated that Pods 2.0 has taken as long as it has, though it’s really a testament to how big 2.0 really is. We’re really close right now since the UI is now waiting on my implementation work. I’ve really only got 2 remaining solid weeks of coding left on all of 2.0. The only problem now is trying to get all that done within my schedule that is already pressed due to the holidays, my wife’s workload with school, and taking care of my daughter.

I’ve spent the past couple of months working with a number of developers on finishing up the UI and ensuring the user experience is phenomenal. I can give you a special sneak peek if you’d like to see what we’ve come up with. Maybe that’ll help curb your appetite while I work on spending every waking hour available on finishing up and pulling all the parts together.

My personal goals aside, I really want to get 2.0 beta out before New Years Day. It depends on a number of factors, and of course I’ll work my butt off, so we’ll see where the chips fall as the holidays approach.

  2. Scott — I echo mungo’s sentiments almost exactly, and have been putting off a big project to be able to do it with 2.0. And like he said, I REALLY appreciate the work you’ve put into it, and realize that it is a massive undertaking. It’s a testament to how valuable PODS has become that people have these business logic decisions to evaluate.

If I may offer a small suggestion — If you could kick out an update post through the kickstarter page every week to 10 days or so, no matter how small or short, I think that would help those of us who do have project timeline decisions to make better evaluate what we’re going to do.

That said, everybody realizes it’s the holidays and other priorities come into play (trust me, in my industry it’s almost impossible to coordinate work between thanksgiving and xmas), so keep up the good work and let us know what’s up when you can.

    • That makes sense, I’ll update Kickstarter a little more often, fell back on updates as I wanted to show more progress and not keep saying “Almost done” “Almost done” lol.

Thanks for hanging in there, you’ll really love what 2.0 has become!
